ROBERT CAPA Illustrated 15/1/44 504th PIR 82nd Airborne Sicily

Robert Capa documented the men of the 3rd battalion 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division as they prepared for Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily at Kairouan,Tunisia.

The operation went ahead on the night of the 9th July 1943. The 3rd Batt. were the only part of the 504th to drop with the 505th PIR . Capa was refused permission to jump and had to return to Kairouan.
