ROBERT CAPA Life 31/1/44 'It's a Tough War' 1st Special Service Force


Capa documeted the 1st Special Service Force, a US-Canadian specialzed mountain unit at Cappagna . The phot essay also includes his images of dead US soldiers of the US 34th Division strewn on the side of Monte Pantano shocked the American public.
On the 30/12/43 as he accompanied the lead elements of the 180th Regiment, US 45th Division in an assault at Venafro. The men came under heavy mortar fire and one man was killed next to Capa, he as hit by three pieces of spent shrapnel.
