Robert Capa documented the operation to rebuild the crushed nose of a Polish soldier. It followed the work of pioneering plastic surgeon Thomas Kilner. Capa blacked out . The writer Quentin Reynolds was offered a glass of brandy to revive Capa. He considered it too precious to waste on an unconscious man and drank it himself.
