On arrival in North Africa Capa visited the men of the 301st Bomb Group, 12th Airforce, based at Constantine Algeria.
On the 6th May 1942 Capa flew with the crew of 'THE GOON', a B17 F of the 32nd Bomb Squadron, 301st Bomb Group on a bombing raid on enemy shipping in the Straits of Sicily.
Capa had previously photographed the301st at Chelveston in England.
