A SOLDIER OF THE U.S.A. IN GREAT BRITAIN, AND A SYMBOL OF UNIFIED DEMOCRATIC STRENGTH
An original copy of The Illustrated London News featuring P.F.C. Milburn H. Henke on the cover. Henke was serving with Baker Company, 1st Battalion 133rd Infantry Regiment, 34th Red Bull Division and was photographed when his troopship docked at Belfast on the 26th January 1942. He was part of the vanguard of the American Expeditionary Force and the first G.I.'s to deploy to Britain.
Henke enlisted at Hutchinson, Minnesota on the 10th February 1941. He saw action in Tunisia in 1943 and was awarded a Silver Star for rescuing his officer. He was injured in a jeep accident prior to the invasion of Italy and returned to the United States.
He survived the war and he died in 1998 aged 79
